A resident of Cheyenne County may apply at the Sheriff's Office:

8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday (excluding holidays)

Requirements:

You must be 21 years of age or older
Must be a resident of Cheyenne County. Have a current Nebraska operator's license (that matches your address on the application), Nebraska State ID card, or a Military ID

Fee:

Application Fee of $5.00

Disqualifiers:

Your application will be denied if you:

Fail to answer all questions on the application
Have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of Domestic Assault
Are under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one (1) year
Have been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for term exceeding one (1) year
Are an unlawful user of, or addicted to any controlled substance
Have been adjudicated as a mental defective or have been committed to a mental institution
Are an alien unlawfully in the United States
Have been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions
Are subject to a court order that restrains the person from stalking, harassing or threatening an intimate partner or child of such partner.

Your Certificate will be valid for three (3) years from the date of issuance

69-2403.

Sale, lease, rental, and transfer; certificate required; exceptions.

(1) Except as provided in this section and section 69-2409, a person shall not purchase, lease, rent, or receive transfer of a handgun until he or she has obtained a certificate in accordance with section 69-2404. Except as provided in this section and section 69-2409, a person shall not sell, lease, rent, or transfer a handgun to a person who has not obtained a certificate.

(2) The certificate shall not be required if:

(a) The person acquiring the handgun is a licensed firearms dealer under federal law;

(b) The handgun is an antique handgun;

(d) The transfer is a temporary transfer of a handgun and the transferee remains (i) in the line of sight of the transferor or (ii) within the premises of an established shooting facility;

(e) The transfer is between a person and his or her spouse, sibling, parent, child, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, or grandparent;

(f) The person acquiring the handgun is a holder of a valid permit under the Concealed Handgun Permit Act; or

(g) The person acquiring the handgun is a peace officer as defined in section 69-2429.
